essence of happiness (part 1)

In the later sections of the book I learn that when we resist a change by clinging to something that is changing and often times as humans we resist change. Of course we can direct change up to a certain degree, but we can’t prevent it’s in order to be happy the key is direct the course of positive change and learn to accept that some change is inevitable and I must remain positive.
One thing I found really important that the book talks about is how we should develop deep relationships it’s clear that the quality of our relationships is very connected with our level of happiness. Deep relationships are based on openness, truth and respect. That allows meaningful communication between two human beings, not of two humans playing roles. It is important to remember that relationships need respect to withstand tough situations. This is important especially in the field of education because everyone involved needs to feel respected and that their feelings matter; the child needs to feel this so they can thrive and the parents need to feel this so they will be comfortable leaving their child in my care. Thorough these relationships the book states that we will learn to develop a sense of compassion. Genuine compassion, as the Dalai Lama speaks about, originates from the realization that every human being is ultimately the same as every other human being and we all deserve to be treated well. When I work with children this is important because often time children and families come from all walks of life so it is important to keep this in mind when interacting that all’s a person ever really wants to feel is safe, love and respected.
From this reading I have learned how I might keep “the mind of clear light" (Enlightenment) where no negative thoughts or emotions arise. It shines through if we are quieting all abstract concepts and thoughts and become aware of the underlying stillness of the mind directly. If I focus on all the positive aspects of life it will be easier to remain happy and content. This information that this book has offered me helps me to feel that I can find a sense of peace and happiness even on the hardest days. As a teacher there are times when I feel negative and have a hard time shifting gears and letting my problems dissolve. But the Essence of Happiness has instilled in me some strategies that I can use in order to ensure I can be the best caretaker for all children who come my way. I think it is important to practice happiness and contentment because I am often overwhelmed and anxious over things, if I can shift my attention to focus on the positive aspects of life then I will be able to deliver the best of me to all my students and those who surround me. My goal is to radiant a sense of positivity so that all who come into contact with me will see that I am grounded, happy and desire for others to feel these positive things too. I want to instill a sense of happiness in all children because every child deserves to feel happy and positive and not overcome by harsh and hard emotions but rather focused on the light and this way they can strive towards becoming a happier, more positive and successful person. I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everyone in my field and outside of my scope of work. I feel anyone can benefit from it because it is the human condition for us to feel hard emotions, but if we focus on the good things, we can all step towards the ultimate goal of true happiness and positivity.
